Obama And The Mullahs II
Our first installment of
Obama's outreach to Iran's nuclear driven Mullahs examined the President's upcoming participation in the Alliance of Civilizations forum in Istanbul. The Alliance has a long history of Iranian financial backing and participation.
Now a
Turkish newspaper is reporting that former Iranian President Khatami, a long time proponent of Iran attaining nuclear weapons, will also attend the forum. The paper speculates that this might lead to the first unofficial meeting between President Obama and a major Iranian political figure. Until a week ago Khatami had been a candidate for President of Iran but withdrew. Khatami is the smiling. pleasant looking Mullah who the West has identified as a moderate. In fact, he is a proponent of Iran's nuclear program and a sharp critic of the United States and Israel.
Earlier this week, Obama's special envoy Richard Holbrooke held a private meeting with Iranian's Deputy Foreign Minister at a conference to discuss the war in Afghanistan. The Obama Administration seems determined to legitimize the repressive regime in Iran.Their strategy includes ignoring the human rights abuses in Iran. A few days ago another blogger was executed.
Obama is in serious danger of repeating the mistakes of Jimmy Carter in the mideast. It seems that we don't learn from history and we all know that you cannot negotiate with these people.
