Thousands Attend Rally - MSM Barely Covers
The following was submitted anonymously by someone who attended yesterday's rally:
The Jewish Action Alliance organized a rally today, Sunday April 25, outside the Israel Consulate in New York. I was there on schedule at 1:00, and it began fairly promptly, at 1:15. The rally was not over when I had to leave, an hour later.
It was a dreary, chilly and rainy day. Given the inclement conditions, the crowd was noteworthy. It was crammed into a fenced-off area of the street, a narrow strip into the street off the sidewalk, but it extended quite a number of blocks along the length of 2nd Avenue, and the crowd was dense. The ralliers were very animated, responding heartily by yeaing and booing, and echoing refrains.
Ed Koch, who was scheduled to speak, was not able to attend, perhaps due to the inclement weather. Of the other speakers I heard, two themes appeared to be dominant, stressed over and over again by many of them. One was substantive, Obama's anti-Israel policy. The other was tactical, the failure of the recognized, mainstream Jewish organizations to support the rally. This was attributed to their lack of courage in the face of intimidation by the Obama administration, which, it was implied, derived from a threat to cut off their access.
Among the speakers was Joan Peters, author of From Time Immemorial, who flew in from Chicago to attend the rally. Peters began by acknowledging her vote for Obama, an admission which drew a sustained chorus of boos, before she could go on to express her present regret of that vote. Another speaker, with academic expertise of the financial world, who also began with that admission, explained the financial links between mainstream banks and investment houses and the flow of funds to Iran, and hence to the terrorists supported by it.
The most rousing speaker I heard was Beth Gilinsky, the head of the Jewish Action Alliance, and clearly a seasoned orator at rallies. Gilinsky, who spoke longer than most, held the crowd in her hands as she recapitulated the themes of the day, and expressed her vision of a continuing, growing and ultimately effective wave of protest to Obama's disastrous and dangerous Middle East policies.
