The Palestinian First Myth
Since taking office, President Obama has insisted on making the Palestinian-Israeli issue his top foreign policy priority. In this week's meetings with Prime Minister Netanyahu, direct talks between the Prime Minister and Mr. Abbas took center stage. This is unfortunate, because the main cause of concern should not be the creation of a Palestinian state but it should be stopping Iran from attaining nuclear capability.
While the peace talks discussion was taking place in the White House, the Ambassador from the United Arab Emirates was making news with his forthright and accurate assessment of the Iran situation. The
Ambassador declared that we can not live with a nuclear Iran and he endorsed the use of military force if that is what it takes to stop Iran from attaining nukes.
This undermines two myths perpetuated by the Obama Administration. First, the myth that Arab countries in region oppose using military force against Iran. And second, that the Palestinian issue is uppermost on the minds of the Arab states. Even if the Israelis reach an agreement, Iran, the main problem in the region will still be in need of solving.
