Michelle Malkin does an excellent job dissecting Secretary of State Rice's defense of a recording of the United States National Anthem in Spanish. Rice's response to this highjacking of a symbol of national unity is at odds with President Bush's opposition. As Malkin notes the recording Rice is defending goes beyond the National Anthem.
We have had our differences with Rice on foreign policy, especially her tendency to close her eyes to Palestinian terrorism, now we have another reason to hope for her speedy retirement.
It is because Condi Rice represents the USA, what she says does matter. Our representatives seem to have forgotten that. The term, "Your Fired", should be applied to many of our representatives today whether Senate or House of Representatives, because they are representing themselves these days not "the people".

Our national anthem should be sung in English. I also believe that one of the conditions of becoming an American citizen should be that the person learns to speak English and they must teach it to their children. It's a big problem for many children who have learned only Spanish at home when they get into the school system. School is difficult enough without having a language barrier as well.

Actually a Spanish language version of the national anthem was commissioned in 1919.

The National Anthem of the USA was written in English and should be sung in English. I read the words to the Spanish version and they are totally different and change the meaning. Some Englishman thought it would promote unity but it has promoted more division. I lost respect for Condi Rice on this one.
