If one is interested in the mindset that led to Israel thinking it can deal with Hezzbolah prospering on its Northern border please read Caroline Glick's latest column.
Caroline's analysis of the situation and what should and should not be done is right on the money.
Hopefully, Israel will never consent to any "international solution" that is based on deploying a multi-national force to keep the peace. Such forces contain the law abiding (Israel) and allow the terrorists (Hezzbolah) to regroup.
Israel is in a Catch 22 situation.Hizbollah, Syria and Iran want to destroy Israel, by any means possible. We got out of Lebanon, we withdrew from Gaza, but the extremists will never desist until we disappear. Bleeding heart liberals seeing the carnage and destruction do not understand their mentality. 700,000 people or more are displacd because Hizbolla place their weapons and fighters in peoples' homes, schools or
hospitals and when Israel retaliates to winkle them out and destroy their infrastructure we become the bad guys. Iran is planning a world without Zionism and the West is doing precious little to thwart them because it is afraid for its oil. We are lucky that Bush and Condy are fundamentalist Christians, but the West is up against fundamental Islam which wants to destroy liberal values in general and Israel in particular

As usual, Caroline Glick's analysis is sharp and true. Unfortunately, we have a bloated, kleptomanaic government headed by a "leader" who is tired of winning and would prefer giving away both our assets and our future.

There will be no peace on the northern border as long as the Moslem Shi'a are allowed to continue in their efforts to take control of Lebanon and fully eclipse that country's historical and political role as a haven for Arab Christians and Druze. Hence, I think that not only must Hezbollah be "defanged", but it must be declared an illegal political party; all Moslems should be repatriated to Syria, and Lebanon regain it's status as a secular christian country. Then, and only then, will there be peace and cooperation between Israel and Lebanon. In exchange for Syria taking in all their Moslem brethren, let's make a deal with Syria: we will return the Golan Heights as long as we can take on a irrevocable 99 year lease of the land. The Golan will then be used in part as a laboratory for cooperative economic efforts between Syria, Lebanon and Israel.

Caroline Glick doesn't go FAR ENOUGH! The predicament that Israel is in now is the result of two actions: 1 - The U.S. giving the PA the right to choose its own new "ruler". Can this be reversed now? Probably not. 2 - Israel ceding GAZA. Why this was Israel's plan is something that will be discussed for many years to come. We all know that the Palestinians objected to no having a "say" on this call.
What if Israel was to REVERSE that decision now, after knowing what was to come????????? Why can't THIS be done now????? Are we worried about world opinion? Are we worried about what the U.S. would say?
These are hard choices to make now, now that there is a great deal of turmoil here. But does ANYBODY have a better SOLUTION? Wasn't this the SOLUTION IN THE PAST? WAS IT INVALIDATED? NO!!!!

Glick has it absolutely right. Moreover, America should warn Syria and Iran to stay out of it. Israel has to go for the throat.
