Germany's Chancellor Angela Merkel is telling the press that the industrial superpowers that make up the so-called G8 have agreed to a strong statement on the conflict in the Middle East.
Supposedly the statement calls for the end of attacks on Israel and expression of concern about the future of Lebanon.
If this report is accurate it is meaningless. This is the time for the United States, Europe and Japan to express its united opposition to Iran's aggressive actions against Israel. All these leaders know that Iran is the economic, military, and political force behind these attacks. In other words Iran is the source.
Hezbollah and Syria are mere proxies for Iran.
By failing to mention Iran and including Israel as a cause for concern these "leaders" are playing politically correct politics. They are not interested in solving the problem of attacks on Israel if it includes condemning Iran.
In fact, Europe has been quite aggressive in its attacks on Israel. I urge everyone to read Michelle Malkin's
blog entry on this matter.
Israel is not the problem. Israel has fought for its existence ever since 1948. None of the old men and women in Israel know peace and neither do the children. The Hamas and the Hezbolla backed by Iran and other Arab states quietly would want to wish Israel away. It is not going to happen. It will best if all the G8 came up with a unified agreement to support Israel just this once, when it is obvious Israel did not start the present conflict. Surely Israel should be congratulated and/or rewarded for its good behaviour. It is amazing to see a whole nation like Lebanon saying they have no control over Hezbolla - why not send them out to Iran. It does not matter whether Iran or Saudi Arabia gave money to rebuild Lebabon, as long as this hostility between the 2Hs exist with Israel, there will always be conflict. Recently the Russian President authroised secret agents to go into Iraq to hunt down and kill those who murdered the Russian diplomats in Iraq. Why cant Israel be allowed to do the same.? I cannot see any country in the world accept for its soldiers to be abducted on their side of the border and keep quiet for the sake of peace. The G8 has to live upto its expectation of being world leaders by coming up with a unified lasting peace agreement that will give all parties peace.
