UPDATED--
Click here to listen!Robert Spencer, director of Jihad Watch and author of the new book
The Truth About Muhammad, participated in a One Jerusalem sponsored conference call with bloggers from the United States and Israel. During this discussion, Mr. Spencer shared with us important insights from his book and his opinions of Islam that are based on his exhaustive study and monitoring of the Islamic world.
Recently, he told us, a radical Islamic web-site declared him an enemy of Islam.
In the conversation, Mr. Spencer talked about Muhammad's attitude toward Christians and Jews, Muhammad's significant role today in the world of radical Islamists, and the total commitment of Muhammad's Islam to the conquering of other religions.
Mr. Spencer talked about the growing Muslim agitation in Europe and the failure of moderate Muslims to speak up against the radicals. He also called on non-Islamic governments to weed out Muslim radicals who attempt to enter their countries.
In answer to a question, Mr. Spencer said that the growing strength of Islam in Europe is propelled by the ever growing size of the Islamic communities. So far that is less of a factor in the United States.
Mr. Spencer also set the record straight on Jerusalem: Jerusalem plays no role in the life of Muhammad expect in one legend. (Which was disputed by one of his wives.) Instead, Mr. Spencer contends, Jerusalem is seen in the Islamic world as another Christian and Jewish entity to be conquered because it is significant to those other religions.
Mr. Spencer confirmed that the powers of the ancient world ignored the rise of Muhammad and Islam and they paid a very high price for this mistake. He fears that history may be repeating itself again.
Mr. Spencer expressed mixed feelings about President Bush's handling of the Islamic threat. He does not doubt the President's commitment to the cause but he questions some of his policy decisions.
Having read
The Truth About Muhammad, I heartily recommend it. Even those who follow the Muslim situation closely will find facts that will illuminate their understanding. I wish every elected official would read and learn from this important text. I'm going to buy a few extra copies for my Congressman and two United States Senators.
