In the United States to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom Award, Natan Sharansky stopped at One Jerusalem's world headquarters to participate in a bloggers conference call.
Natan, Chairman of One Jerusalem, fielded bloggers questions on the Baker-Hamilton report, the troubles in Gaza, President Bush, and Iran.
Sharansky described the Baker recommendation as appeasement that will encourage the enemies of Israel and the United States to continue their aggression against the West. He attributed the disarray in Gaza to the policies of the United States and Israel that propped up the dictator Arafat, and allowed Hamas to run in Parliamentary elections.
As Omri points out, Natan speaks with a fervor and clarity that is quite clear. It isn't enough to read the recaps of this call - you must listen to the audio.
Congratulations to Natan on receiving the highest award a civilian can receive. Natan is only the fourth non-American citizen to receive both the Presidential and Congressional Medal of Freedom.
I'm happy Mr Sharansky's "The case for democracy" made it to the top of responsible leadership on our planet. It is the only way forward. I also hope Israeli decision makers know exactly how to cope with new threats and when. I hope they have accurate information about targets to be eliminated in nuclear Iran. I hope Israeli professionals will succeed in saving the people of Iran, Israel and "us " from a new world conflict on unimaginable (?) proportions. I hope it will not come to that. At the end of the Second World World we screamed out "never again". Really ? What steps have we taken to that ? Europe finally got unified. It's far harder to influence events farther away.
Therefor we need the Natan Sharanskys of this world. More than ordinary politicians they are more difficult to ridicule or do away with. They speak with authority. They've lived through it all. The case for our survival is ...do we listen ?
