Although I live some six thousand miles away from Jerusalem, my most fervent prayers will be with those who form a human chain around the walls of the Old City of Jerusalem on Tuesday, January 8. I hope that President Bush will see with his own eyes how committed and with what strong conviction Israelis love Jerusalem and are dedicated to its eternal unity as the capital of Israel.

I second "Trevortni's" suggestion below that gold ribbons be made available in the US -- but they need to have on them a statement in English explaining what they mean, e.g., "Jerusalem, City of Gold -- Don't Divide It! "

Israel is allowing one man, PM Olmert to make decisions with regards to the demands of President Bush and Condi Rice in giving away part of Jerusalem to a pack of terrorists who want nothing less than to destroy Israel. Where is the rest of the Knesset? Why aren't they speaking out? Aren't there any leaders among the dovs who sit back and wait for the Heavins to open up and dissolve the state of Israel? Even in America we have a majority rule and Congress steps in and goes against the President. We need more members of the Knesset to stand up and be counted or Israel will be given away, stone by stone, section by section and city by city. Jerusalem must remain the united, individed capital of the State of Israel and no one person should have the right to destroy this great city. Bush can't even control an Iraqi war that he started and he is giving advice to Israel? I am an American and if I lived in Israel I would tell the President of the U.S. to stay out of Israel's business now and forever.

The American people need to pray for the peace of Jerusalem and stand firm for Israel and take care of the Jewish people, because if we don't we will get the wrath of God, because you are messing with God's people and God's land and God gave Israel to the Jewish people. Israel needs a better political leader who will stand and fight for her and not make her give up her land and not to make her divide Jerusalem!! God bless you all and let's pray for one another and pray for peace and let's support Israel in her time of need. Michele Rose

Gold ribbons to show support for Jerusalem? Is it possible to get those in the U.S.? I would gladly - no, proudly - make an extra donation to get one to put on my car, and I am normally very leery of putting stuff like that on my car.

It is wonderful to read that the One Jerusalem message is far reaching. I hope and pray that the Israeli public will commit to action what the true concerns of Jerusalem mean to Israel's future: a demand that Jerusalem never be divided under any circumstances to satisfy anyone's personal or group agenda. Perhaps Mayor Uri Lupolianski could establish a city-wide referendum whereby Jerusalemites would be able to voice their convictions in a formal, democratic fashion to demonstrate their official backing for an eternally unified Jerusalem. That way, world leaders would not be able to conjecture as to whether the people actually residing in Jerusalem were uncommitted to one Jerusalem as their capital. Such a referendum really should be a nationwide endeavor to ascertain the true, valid Israeli disposition to an undivided, unified Jerusalem as being the undisputed capital of Israel.

United Jerusalem Petition
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, to ensure free and open access for all people.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, as an expression of the unique relationship between the Jewish People and its eternal capital.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, so as never to return to the dark period of 1947-67, when Arab control over an artificially divided Jerusalem meant religious persecution, desecration of holy sites, and wanton destruction.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, according to the current municipal boundaries, set in the wake of Israel’s defensive 1967 Six Day War.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, where Jews may enjoy the right to pray on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in the Jewish world.
Preserve The Temple Mount
  • For a decade, Muslim religious authorities have participated in the destruction and elimination of precious Jewish and Christian artifacts on the site of Solomon's Temple, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
  • Thousands of tons of earth, containing archaeological evidence dating back to the period of the Temple of Solomon, were discarded. Among the 'rubble' were ancient seals from a Priestly family, inscribed pottery fragments in Ancient Hebrew, Altar screens and broken columns from a fourth century Byzantine Church.
  • Since the year 2000, the Muslim religious authority – the Waqf - has blocked all archaeological oversight of the Temple Mount.
  • Meanwhile, the Waqf continues to construct Mosques on the sacred sites of Jews and Christians.
  • We believe the international and Israeli media should have unrestricted access to the Temple Mount.
  • We believe the world-respected Israeli Antiquities Authority be empowered to supervise the day to day activities on the Temple Mount.
  • Currently, the Waqf forbids any non-Muslim entrance, except on a selective and very limited basis. For instance, the Waqf does not give any observers access inside the vast subterranean rooms, from which many antiquities have been removed.
  • We demand the preservation and respect of the Temple Mount. Only full access and complete transparency for all parts of the Temple Mount can prevent further abuse and destruction of this site which has been venerated throughout history.
