Braving cold and rainy weather, thousands of Israelis created a human chain around the Old City to peacefully demonstrate their support for a free and secure united Jerusalem.
One Jerusalem staged this event a day before President Bush arrives in Israel.
Israeli media gave extensive coverage to this event and interviewed One Jerusalem's Chairman Natan Sharansky and other participants.
This demonstration and others, sponsored by One Jerusalem, have provided a voice for the majority of Israelis who oppose a division of Jerusalem.
The importance of these demonstrations increases as Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice continues to advocate the division of Israel's capital city. For her latest comments, see Mere Rhetoric here.
The fact that so many Israelis came out to celebrate the miracle of the Jewish sovereignty over a unified, undivided Jerusalem speaks volumes about the fortitude of the fortitude of the Jewish people. The symbolic advantage of a human chain represents the true humanity envisaged by the prophets in the role Jerusalem would play on the world stage. Jerusalem, the capital of Israel, is truly the connection between heaven and earth: from Jerusalem will come the light we humans need to end war and bring about world peace.
