Unfortunately, separation of church and state is not part of the British legal system. The Queen (or King) is the de facto head of the Anglican church. Israeli law is a mixture of Turkish and British law. No wonder that the civil authorities wander around like headless chickens. US law is based on the British system except in Louisiana, where it is based on the French system. One of the major differences that the Founding Fathers wanted to establish is the separation between church and state. This is really no more than the concept of not establishing a national religion. Any code of conduct (I do not consider sharia to be law) that whips women who are the victim of rape, or cuts off the hand of a thief, or disallows religious articles of any other religion other than islam to not be brought into a country such as saudi arabia, such a code is anti life, anti reason, anti humanity, anti civility, and contrary to the benefit of the world community as a whole.

Sharia "Law" is not a "Law" but a sanctioned persecution by largely uneducated old men against anything that they deem punishable. Especially as related to that "slave caste", known to the rest of the world as "women"! It is disgusting to allow this.

If Sharia law is allowed in any western nation it would be the end of freedom of religion...

The United Kingdom may in part be willing to subject itself to Sharia law, but rest assured that The United States of America will never allow it. That is not as long as people like myself have any breath left in their bodies.

No way does Archbishop of Canterbury Dr Williams speak on behalf of UK Christians. He is a maverick quite outside of public opinion. His comments have been denounced by Government & Trevor Phillips the chairman of the Equality and Human Rights Commission. The Bishop of Rochester,Pakistan born Dr Michael Nazir-Ali is a far better spokesman on this situation!

The British people have been hoodwinked by their government into believing that appeasement of the radical Islamist movement in their country will bring about peace. This is total non sense and a repeat of the 1930's and Neville Chamberlin's efforts to make peace with Hitler. The Islamic movement is the Nazi Party of our times. They will stop at nothing and do whatever is necessary to defeat the west....Britain may well be lost..America will stand alone!

"Radical" Islam is continuing its steady march throughout Western Europe. If sharia law is unavoidable in Britain, it is likewise unavoidable throughout the continent. The Western civilization, which took 2000 painful years to develop its sense of tolerance and overall humanity, is then all but dead. Islam is at least 600 years behind in its development. With the current march of technological progress it is doubtful that the world can survive while Islam struggles to catch up. The US could be the Western civilization's last significant outpost, so, unless we follow Europe's suit, we may have to come to its rescue yet again.

Obviously, the Archbishop has accepted dhimmitude already! How can any Christian support the imposition of the barbaric tribal customs of 8th century desert nomads in a civilized nation in the 21st century? We truly live in a dark age!

As a UK Christian I am so deeply ashamed and disturbed by the antics of this man - the head of a UK Anglican church which is plummeting out of control into an Islam-appeasing apostasy. As the so-called 'Vicar of Christ' his one and only well-paid role is to preach the Christian gospel, a vitally important warning in which, from the mouth of Jesus himself, is to" beware of false prophets". To date, only a few of the most enlightened of modern Christian leaders have stated openly and unreservedly the truth recognised by every true Christian heart, that the man Mohammed was without doubt the primary false prophet in all the religious history of the world. Given this truth, why is the head of world Anglicanism advocating that the milleniums old law of our land, based very firmly in age old Christian principles, should now be laced with laws from a false religion based on the plagiaristic rantings of a false prophet, as foretold by the Master this archbishop is supposed to be serving?

Just at the time when we are trying to stop Britistanis and other Muslim immigrants to stop taking their girls out of school at 13 for arranged/forced marriages, trying to stop honour killings, trying to suppress the more backward aspects of Islam. This, the Archbishop thought, must be the right time to encourage the most culturally backward, most divisive and least religious aspect of Islam. That's it Archie Bish! You encourage the most religiously divisive, sectarian and dogmatic side of Islam and let's suppress and undermine any moderate Muslims who admit that sharia law is a cultural abomination. All this while simultaneously trying to argue against Christianity's equivalent of Sharia from the towering intellectual giants of African theology! If he wants to appear to have deep interfaith understanding why doesn't he just admit that Christians and Muslims built their various competing sects on the firm foundation of Judaism - and start from there? Instead of encouraging all this backwards-looking Sharia nonsense which some Muslims have come to Britain to escape from.

I am a Jewish citizen of the United States and Israel. Both countries have their govenments based on the British system. How in the world can the Archbishop of Canterbury make such an irresponsible assertion regarding the law in the United Kingdom? Separation of church and state has always been a mainstay of those nations based on democracy. Some Western countries follow this dictum better than others; nonetheless, instituting a dual legal system by which certain citizens are required one set of laws and another set of citizens are required to follow another set of laws will definitely lead to chaos and anarchy. If the Muslim population in the United Kingsom really wants to practice Islam, their religion, they can certainly resettle in one of the many countries in different parts of the world where the country follows Sharia law. I would think that the Archbishop would wish to make every effort to maintain the law as it stands and has stood for hundreds of years.

United Jerusalem Petition
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, to ensure free and open access for all people.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, as an expression of the unique relationship between the Jewish People and its eternal capital.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, so as never to return to the dark period of 1947-67, when Arab control over an artificially divided Jerusalem meant religious persecution, desecration of holy sites, and wanton destruction.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, according to the current municipal boundaries, set in the wake of Israel’s defensive 1967 Six Day War.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, where Jews may enjoy the right to pray on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in the Jewish world.
Preserve The Temple Mount
  • For a decade, Muslim religious authorities have participated in the destruction and elimination of precious Jewish and Christian artifacts on the site of Solomon's Temple, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
  • Thousands of tons of earth, containing archaeological evidence dating back to the period of the Temple of Solomon, were discarded. Among the 'rubble' were ancient seals from a Priestly family, inscribed pottery fragments in Ancient Hebrew, Altar screens and broken columns from a fourth century Byzantine Church.
  • Since the year 2000, the Muslim religious authority – the Waqf - has blocked all archaeological oversight of the Temple Mount.
  • Meanwhile, the Waqf continues to construct Mosques on the sacred sites of Jews and Christians.
  • We believe the international and Israeli media should have unrestricted access to the Temple Mount.
  • We believe the world-respected Israeli Antiquities Authority be empowered to supervise the day to day activities on the Temple Mount.
  • Currently, the Waqf forbids any non-Muslim entrance, except on a selective and very limited basis. For instance, the Waqf does not give any observers access inside the vast subterranean rooms, from which many antiquities have been removed.
  • We demand the preservation and respect of the Temple Mount. Only full access and complete transparency for all parts of the Temple Mount can prevent further abuse and destruction of this site which has been venerated throughout history.
