Mazal tov on the "grim milestone." I say "grim" because if all were well, we would be gardening or taking yoga classes instead of blogging for Israel. It's kind of like Obama's "Hope" and "Change" -- the underlying message is that we don't have, or haven't had, any Hope or reason to Hope, and we're desperate for Change because everything is so terrible. Thank you for all your hard work, but here's to the day when Israel doesn't need our advocacy - when Am Yisrael Chai is a given, not a prayer - and we can all retire from the blogosphere! Kol tuv and be well.

This forum has provided me with a sort of diary that I can write to Jerusalem once or twice a week. Living in the Diaspora is not easy for me. I have one foot in Israel and one foot in the States at all times. One Jerusalem gives me the opportunity to connect with my homeland and vent my frustrations as well as offer my love for the one place I know truly holds my heart and soul. The topics which One Jerusalem offers make that connection current, even immediate. Such an orientation brings my consciousness to the very front of what is most important after my own personal family: Israel, with the locus being Jerusalem. My feelings and emotions profoundly reach out daily to Jerusalem and pray that Jerusalem remains one city, one capital--the capital of my homeland Israel.

United Jerusalem Petition
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, to ensure free and open access for all people.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, as an expression of the unique relationship between the Jewish People and its eternal capital.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, so as never to return to the dark period of 1947-67, when Arab control over an artificially divided Jerusalem meant religious persecution, desecration of holy sites, and wanton destruction.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, according to the current municipal boundaries, set in the wake of Israel’s defensive 1967 Six Day War.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, where Jews may enjoy the right to pray on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in the Jewish world.
Preserve The Temple Mount
  • For a decade, Muslim religious authorities have participated in the destruction and elimination of precious Jewish and Christian artifacts on the site of Solomon's Temple, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
  • Thousands of tons of earth, containing archaeological evidence dating back to the period of the Temple of Solomon, were discarded. Among the 'rubble' were ancient seals from a Priestly family, inscribed pottery fragments in Ancient Hebrew, Altar screens and broken columns from a fourth century Byzantine Church.
  • Since the year 2000, the Muslim religious authority – the Waqf - has blocked all archaeological oversight of the Temple Mount.
  • Meanwhile, the Waqf continues to construct Mosques on the sacred sites of Jews and Christians.
  • We believe the international and Israeli media should have unrestricted access to the Temple Mount.
  • We believe the world-respected Israeli Antiquities Authority be empowered to supervise the day to day activities on the Temple Mount.
  • Currently, the Waqf forbids any non-Muslim entrance, except on a selective and very limited basis. For instance, the Waqf does not give any observers access inside the vast subterranean rooms, from which many antiquities have been removed.
  • We demand the preservation and respect of the Temple Mount. Only full access and complete transparency for all parts of the Temple Mount can prevent further abuse and destruction of this site which has been venerated throughout history.
