It is really too bad that the government can NOT see that for every inch they give up more lives are in danger. And how can they give up what ISN'T theirs to give up anyway???

During the Yom Kippur War of 1973-74, I was living with my family in Migdal north of Tiveria on the KIneret (Sea of Galilee). During the blackout on Succot we ate underneath the table in the succah, by candlelight, (lit also under the table). We were so close to Syria that their bombs fell past us and landed on a nursery/kindrgarten in the settlement to the west of us. Fortunately, the children were all in the bomb shelter and were unharmed. This first hand experience taught me that the Golan must be in our hands, or Syria will use it to attack us. I cannot forgive Olmert for offering it to our unrepentant enemy. It is a sad state of affairs when the leftist Peres is more "right" than our prime minister. May Hashem have mercy on us!

I hope that Government will not give up the Golan. This part of land is so precious for the security of Israelien's citizen. And it will be a big mistake

I dont agree to return the Golan Heights to Syria, because as soon as they will be in the top the problems for northern country will start and soon or late we will be forced to reocuppy the Golan. Its always the same old story. No confidence in Arab Governments.

If the PLO andthe PA could not, within a period of six decades, find a method of conciliation with Israel, then it becomes questionable if they can ever. For the greater part of those six decades, it was, and apparently still is, the intention of the Palestinians to try to lull the Israelis into a false sense of security, and thus gain an advantage for making their terrirst efforts more effectrive. Let us not be deluded - Palestinian children are educated in hate and non-recognotion of the state of Israel, and these effots have been supported by the British to the tune of 47.5 Million pounds last year. As long as the U.S is tied to the E.U., , Russia and the U.N.(three anti-Semitic entities) they will accompllsh nothing towards peace. Not until Hamas is destroyed and the PA starts recognizing the State of Israel in their actions, schools and intentions, as well as in their words, will there be a hope of peace It is then when peqace can be accomplished with Syria and other Arab natons, which now support the hate and divisiveness. .

I cannot understand the Jewish people in Israel even considering a thought to give up the Golan Heights. I was there in '06 and visited the Golan Heights and realized how important this area is to the Jewish people...please do not give up...fight to keep your land.

Has Israel taken total leave of its senses ? I am not Jewish but can see the end game, the total destruction of your country by Barbaric forces alien to human decency. Wake up please, first you and then us !

I am against handing over the Golan Heights to Syria. It just makes me sick to even have the realzation of having to type this.

If Israel were to give up the Golan to Syria on Friday, Hezbollah would be launching rockets into Israel from the Golan by Monday. Evil cannot be appeased, only destroyed.

You KNOW that this is absolute craziness, if EVEN Peres is opposed to it. I'd better move up my next trip to Israel---better see it while it still exists.

What is the source of such weakness, and political impotence with the Govt of Israel? Hasn't history taught them ANYTHING? The Arab nations have never been friendly neighbours of Israel. Only when the leaders of Israel return to the G-d of Israel, will the nation have peace and safety.

Nothing should ever have been given back. EVER! Check out the books of JOSHUA, JUDGES, SAMUEL in the Bible. Now THAT'S the Jewish way, not these mealy-mouthed bids for world approval. Nothing but a great show of strength will ever work.

The entire world would lose with Jerusalem divided & the Golan given away. I agree it would be the eventual end of the Jewish homeland & the Moslems would take over everything. What has happened to the fighting spirit G-d has embued our Jewish people with? Why do people still think we can negotiate with our enemies?

Isn't it about time they got rid of Olmert and replace him with Benjamin Natanyahu? Now there's a man who would stand to to Israel's enemies! I can't understand why Olmert seems to stay in power. Why don't the Israelis move enmasse against this incompetent leader and get rid of him?

Israelis haven't made a fire storm because most are on holiday which is when and how Olmert operates. The other is that Olmert has made enough concessions to keep his coalition so Shas is the same as Labor and the saame as Meretz. Israel is no longer "democratic" since the majority has no voice. Its either miracles or Jews are on the "slaughter block". What else?

This is not a solution and it will never be a solution to keep removing viable working people from homes they labored so hard to build and maintain. Peace will not come because of it. Giving into strong arm tactics will only result in more. There are other ways of taking care of the Palestinian poor and this is not it. The single most important help to the Palestinian people is not a transfer of land but a transfer of education. The financial aid given to Yaser Arafat to help the Palestinian people was only used for his personal gain and for terrorism. So far all of the things done in an attempt to help Palestinians has been a failure. They are not better off and they still are uneducated as to what and who the real problem is. Giving into the ignorant belief that these people have that acquiring land will solve their problems makes those who give it to them just as misguided. Spend the time and money that would be spent on this senseless solution and apply it to building homes for those Jews who have already lost land and homes in the transfer of territory. They never deserved to loose their homes and they should be well compensated and quickly. Whether it is Palestinians or Syria, or any neighboring entity the facts are the same, peace will not come from robbing one party to give to another. It just does not work, especially if the gratitude of the receiver is violence towards their benefactor.

The minority Assad regime which has brutally suppressed the Sunni majority population and exported terrorism to Israel, Lebanon and Jordan will always have reason enough to welcome Iranian support. "Peace" with Syria would be nothing of the kind, and it is ridiculous to weaken national resolve and raise international expectations in the way Israel's Prime Minister does. If he gives the Golan to Syria, the Heights become monuments to Olmert's self-regard and his lack of strategic sense and leadership and should be renamed in his honour.

Arab sovereignty in Jerusalem just cannot be. This city will not be divided—not half and half, not 60-40, not 75-25, nothing. ~Golda Meir~

not an inch - it is not about land - we can begin to co-exist with our neightbours ONLY when they accept that Israel is here to stay, as a Jewish state...

How could such highly intelligent people with so much at stake totally abandoned basic common sense and wisdom?

THIS IS SUICIDE FOR ISRAEL - FIRST GAZA AND NOW GOLAN HEIGHTS - WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE? ISRAEL WILL BE SANDWICHED ON BOTH ENDS WHILE THESE STRATEGIC BORDERS ARE USED AS LAUNCHING PADS FOR MISSILES TO ATTACK ISRAEL. WAKE UP ISRAEL!

Hereunder is a copy of my last comment on 24/01/08 Thank you for standing in support of Jerusalem. Now that Olmert has declared his intent to divide Jerusalem, please direct Shas to leave the coalition now, and force the coalition to fall! Jerusalem must NEVER be divided. I personally do not understand, that after all the blood spilt for the freedom of Jerusalem, that politicians “without balls” want to give it away to the Hamas and Hezbollah terrorists supported by al-Qaida, Syria and Iran. If Jerusalem is divided then that will be the stepping stone for the destruction of Israel. Prepare for the 21st century “Masada” Please open this link for the latest Jerusalem Post news item; New al-Qaida tape calls for world wide Islamic terrorist unity Horrible circumstances replaced Ariel Sharon with Olmert. If dividing Jerusalem is another example of this Governments incompetence; get Rid of Them. Sincerely, A Very Concerned Friend of Jerusalem Abraham Seskin

tHE COMMENTS SHOULD HAVE CAUSED A FIRESTORM IN ISRAEL. Giving the Golan to Syria would be a huge mistake. Shimon Peres is right in his remarks and is probably the only leader who makes any sense about it.

I AM AFRAID THAT ISRAELIS ARE ACTUALLY GIVING AWAY ISRAEL AGAIN. AND THIS TIME IT WILL BE PERMANENTLY IN THE HANDS OF THEIR ENEMIES. NO ONE WILL EVER SUPPORT A JEWISH STATE EVER AGAIN, AND THE AMERICAN JEWS ARE ALREADY ALIENATED FROMISRAEL IN FACT FROM BEING JEWS. ISRAELIS ARE NO LONGER WILLING TO STAND UP FOR THE COUNTRY AND LEBERAL VIEWS WILL ONLY HAND ISREAL ENEMIES THE LAND WITHOUT A FIGHT AND EVENTUALLY THE JEWS IN ISRAEL WILL BE OVERWHELMED BY THE BURGEONING ARAB POPULATION IN THEIR MIDST. UNFORTUNATELY ISRAEL WILL BE LOST AND ONCE AGAIN THE JEWS WILL BE IN THE DISPORA WITHOUT ANY HOPE OF EVER REGAINING THE LAND OF ISRAEL. ALSO, EVENTUALLY THE WAY THE ISRAELI GOVERNMENT IS GOING ISRAEL WILL BE RENAMED TO REFLECT MORE THE ARAB POPULATION . ALL JEWISH SITES WILL JOIN THE OTHER SITES UNDER MOSLEM RULE AND WUILL BE DESTROYED. JEWISH EXISTENCE IN JUDEA AND SAMARIA WILL NOT EVEN EXIST IN THE HISTORICAL BOOKS. SINCE THE ARAB WILL RE-WRITE THE HISTOR AS THEY SEE FIT. JUST LOOK AT ISRAEL;'S ARAB NEIGHBORING COUNTRIES. IF ISRAEL WANTS JEWS ALL OVER THE WORLD TO INVEST IN ISRAEL, IT NEEDS TO SHOW TO THE WORLD THAT IT IS HERE TO STAY AND NOT TO SURRENDER INCREMENTALLY PIECES OF LAND FOR PEACE WHICH WILL NEVER MATERIALIZE SINCE ISRAEL ENEMIES ARE RELENTLESS. THE CLOSER THEY GET TO TEL AVIV AND JERUSALEM AND ISRAEL'S MAJOR CITIES THE MORE THEY ARE EMBOLDENED TO PRESS ISRAEL FOR MORE TILL THERE IS NO MORE . IT IS INDEED SAD, VERY SAD.

I PRAY THAT ISRAEL WILL NOT GIVE UP THE GOLAN HEIGHTS OR ANY MORE LAND FOR PEACE THAT THE ARABS ie PALESTINIANS KNOW NOTHING ABOUT. THEIR PEACE MEANS ALL FOR THEM AND NOTHING FOR ANYBODY ELSE.. AND STILL NO PEACE.

It hasn't been quiet in my house! I remember joining my junior class at a military base in the Golan Heights and helping set corrugated steel in ditches near mountains of barbed wire fencing in the late 70s. Mr. Peres is 100% correct: the Golan should never be abandoned by Israel. Strategically, agriculturally, spiritually, and as a source of water--the Golan is a precious gem for Israel. Anyone who thinks differently should tour the now rusting Syrian bunkers close to the place where snipers would shoot at farmers in kibbutzim and moshavim before June '67. For Mr. Olmert to even consider any type of concession to Syria is pure folly. Fellow Israelis: Think referendum. Better yet: Think elections. Achshav!

United Jerusalem Petition
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, to ensure free and open access for all people.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, as an expression of the unique relationship between the Jewish People and its eternal capital.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, so as never to return to the dark period of 1947-67, when Arab control over an artificially divided Jerusalem meant religious persecution, desecration of holy sites, and wanton destruction.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, according to the current municipal boundaries, set in the wake of Israel’s defensive 1967 Six Day War.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, where Jews may enjoy the right to pray on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in the Jewish world.
Preserve The Temple Mount
  • For a decade, Muslim religious authorities have participated in the destruction and elimination of precious Jewish and Christian artifacts on the site of Solomon's Temple, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
  • Thousands of tons of earth, containing archaeological evidence dating back to the period of the Temple of Solomon, were discarded. Among the 'rubble' were ancient seals from a Priestly family, inscribed pottery fragments in Ancient Hebrew, Altar screens and broken columns from a fourth century Byzantine Church.
  • Since the year 2000, the Muslim religious authority – the Waqf - has blocked all archaeological oversight of the Temple Mount.
  • Meanwhile, the Waqf continues to construct Mosques on the sacred sites of Jews and Christians.
  • We believe the international and Israeli media should have unrestricted access to the Temple Mount.
  • We believe the world-respected Israeli Antiquities Authority be empowered to supervise the day to day activities on the Temple Mount.
  • Currently, the Waqf forbids any non-Muslim entrance, except on a selective and very limited basis. For instance, the Waqf does not give any observers access inside the vast subterranean rooms, from which many antiquities have been removed.
  • We demand the preservation and respect of the Temple Mount. Only full access and complete transparency for all parts of the Temple Mount can prevent further abuse and destruction of this site which has been venerated throughout history.
