What I find most amazing is that the Israeli public sits idly by and allows Olmert to continue to make obscene deals with Hama, Hizballah and the PA. If I were in Israel, I would start a massive e-mail campaign to all of the parties who are part of the coalition to advise them that their continued support of this disgraceful government will cost them dearly in the next election.

Caroline Glick clearly enumerates policies Israel should follow to thwart as much Arab violence as possible. It is astounding to me that Israel's "leaders" and "opinion makers" are so incompetent and blind. There are more than 40,000 weapons aiming at Israel at this very moment. - not to mention Iran. Insane Israeli "non-policies" add to this enormous arsenal of death. They basically augment enemies and put stakes in Israeli hearts. None so blind as those who WILL NOT see. Throw the bums, out!

Where there is censorship of opinion, for whatever reason, there is a threat to democracy; there being but one exception: national security. Criticism of a governments failures to prosecute anti-government forces does not constitute national security, nor does it preclude a citizen abroad from voicing their opinions. Freedom of speech and the press is a govrnment function, not that of a private publication.

Its not hard to see that the secular leaders of Israel despise the religious citizens by giving away to their enemies the things they hold very dear, but now their contempt for all the citizens is becoming apparent by their inaction and refusal to address the problems which will only escalate until addressed. Israeli's cannot rely on the USA, or the UN nor the EU, neither the Arab Gov'ts to even condemn this murderous behavior, let alone DO anything about it, so they have only their own leaders to protect them, but they are too busy with their own agenda. Reform the Hagannah I say. You need a group who answers to no Gov't - not even your own.

Carolyn is right, right, right!!! Where is Shas? Why haven't they quit the government yet? How much more will they allow? Shame on them!

I appreciate Caroline's honest appraisal of the laxity with which the Israeli government is dealing with Israeli Arab radicalism. In addition, I want to add a factor which seems to reflect the malaise rife in Israel at this time of urgent need for reform: In The Jerusalem Post, those living outside of Israel are not allowed to voice their opinions regarding Israel's security. Caroline's article is about Israel's security. If someone out of the country were to write a similar article or even a reader's letter with some of the components resonating in Caroline's article, the piece would probably not be published by The Jerusalem Post. I have stopped my subscription to The Jerusalem Post in protest of such an inane policy. As a Jew and an Israeli citizen living in the United States, I should have the right to state my opinion about any issue affecting Israel in The Jerusalem Post. After all, isn't Israel a democracy? Shouldn't there be freedom of speech in Israel and its media? A recent poll indicates that 80% of Israelis living in Israel are against anyone outside of the country publishing their opinions about issues concerning Israeli security. But it is all right for Israelis living in Israel to voice their opinions about the future American president. That president will have a major say in Israel's security, especially relative to Israel's receiving military support against Iran. If that is not a security issue, what is?

United Jerusalem Petition
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, to ensure free and open access for all people.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, as an expression of the unique relationship between the Jewish People and its eternal capital.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, so as never to return to the dark period of 1947-67, when Arab control over an artificially divided Jerusalem meant religious persecution, desecration of holy sites, and wanton destruction.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, according to the current municipal boundaries, set in the wake of Israel’s defensive 1967 Six Day War.
  • I support a unified Jerusalem under Israeli sovereignty, where Jews may enjoy the right to pray on the Temple Mount, the holiest site in the Jewish world.
Preserve The Temple Mount
  • For a decade, Muslim religious authorities have participated in the destruction and elimination of precious Jewish and Christian artifacts on the site of Solomon's Temple, the Temple Mount in Jerusalem.
  • Thousands of tons of earth, containing archaeological evidence dating back to the period of the Temple of Solomon, were discarded. Among the 'rubble' were ancient seals from a Priestly family, inscribed pottery fragments in Ancient Hebrew, Altar screens and broken columns from a fourth century Byzantine Church.
  • Since the year 2000, the Muslim religious authority – the Waqf - has blocked all archaeological oversight of the Temple Mount.
  • Meanwhile, the Waqf continues to construct Mosques on the sacred sites of Jews and Christians.
  • We believe the international and Israeli media should have unrestricted access to the Temple Mount.
  • We believe the world-respected Israeli Antiquities Authority be empowered to supervise the day to day activities on the Temple Mount.
  • Currently, the Waqf forbids any non-Muslim entrance, except on a selective and very limited basis. For instance, the Waqf does not give any observers access inside the vast subterranean rooms, from which many antiquities have been removed.
  • We demand the preservation and respect of the Temple Mount. Only full access and complete transparency for all parts of the Temple Mount can prevent further abuse and destruction of this site which has been venerated throughout history.
