Desperate politicians will do whatever they can to stay in office. Rarely does a politician give up an office for the good of the country. Richard Nixon's decision not to contest the results of the 1960 Presidential election even though it appeared he was the victim of voter theft in Illinois is a rare example of a politician setting aside his personal wishes for the good of the country.(Of course, we are not suggesting the troubled Mr.Nixon as a role model beyond this one example.)
This brings us to Olmert. Israel's Prime Minister is desperately fighting to stay in office. He is using his legal powers to try and force deals with Assad and Abbas. He is talking to Hamas and Hezzbolah. He is freeing terrorists with the blood of innocents on their hands in exchange for dead bodies or empty promises.
His desperate attempt to remain in power played itself out at the conference hosted by President Sarkozy. Olmert's office declared that he would be having a face to face meeting with Syria's Assad. He made grand statements that Israel was never so close to peace with its neighbors. None of these declarations have proven to be true.
More and more it is becoming obvious that he is hanging to power by his fingernails and this man might do some great long-term injury to his country if he does not leave soon.
get some of his coalition to drop support & force a no confidence vote in the Knesset.
