“Next Year in Jerusalem” ... the words of hope and faith that have sustained
generations, and that have held the Jewish people together for two millennia.
Jerusalem is perhaps the only example in history of a place people prayed towards
and yearned for despite never having seen it. For generations the Jewish people
nurtured their connection to Jerusalem. The mere mention of the city kept Jews
from despair and assimilation during centuries of torture and exile.
Jerusalem remained for all Jews the dream of rebirth, the hope of continuity, and
the manifestation of both their particularity as a people and the universality of
their values. Most importantly, it remained the Jewish capital, even as the Jewish
people languished in exile. In 2,000 years, Jerusalem has been the capital of only
one country – the ancient and modern State of Israel.
Yet, today, in our generation, the future of Jerusalem is at risk. Not so long ago,
the notion of dividing Jerusalem was unheard of, unimaginable. It is a sad reality
that today some eagerly embrace the once unthinkable. So, your help is needed today
more than ever. Those who seek to tear Jerusalem in two hope you will stand by quietly.
Prove them wrong. Show you care about keeping Jerusalem safe and united. Please support
One Jerusalem today!
Sincerely,
Natan Sharansky
